Donor Societies

"Nothing ever built arose to touch the skies unless someone dreamed that it should,
believed that it could, and willed that it must."

Florida International University is honored to recognize the extraordinary philanthropy of
those individuals and organizations who are the University' s most generous benefactors.

The Torch Society

The image of the torch has been associated with FIU since the University's first day of classes. On September 14, 1972, the Torch of Knowledge, a landmark of the University Park campus, was dedicated. This traditional symbol of learning inspired the name of The Torch Society, which honors FIU' s most loyal and generous benefactors.

The Gold Flame, symbolic of the power of knowledge to enlighten society, is the highest
order of recognition among the University' s donor recognition societies. Members of the
Torch Society, Gold Flame, have made contributions of $1,000,000 or more to the University.

The Silver Flame, evoking both the value of a precious metal and the brightness of the torch,
recognizes contributors whose support of the University exceeds $500,000.

The Bronze Flame recognizes benefactors whose contributions to the University have
exceeded $100,000. The insignia of this society is a bronze medallion on a blue and gold
ribbon.

The Society of Founders

Created in 1984, the Society of Founders is the oldest of FIU's major donor recognition societies. It honors those who have contributed at least $50,000 to the University.
