Cleon Barnett

Dr. Cleon Barnett is the son of Gary and Tonetta Barnett of Mounds, IL. Dr. Barnett was the 1993 Valedictorian of Meridian High School. He has always shown a special interest in math and science. He began his formal education at Alabama A & M in Huntsville, AL and graduated in May 1998 Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science with emphasis in Physics. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree, Barnett continued his education at Fisk University in Nashville, TN. While there he received a Master of Art Degree in Physics, May 2001. Dr. Barnett successfully defended his dissertation titled, "The Investigation of Intensity Enhancement From Dual Pulse Laser-Induced Plasma Used for Elemental Identification," on January 16, 2007 at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). He participated in the August 2007 commencement activities and received his PhD in Physics from FAMU. He is presently employed at Florida International University, Miami, FL, at the International Forensic Research Institute. His research involves the use of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for forensic applications. His main interest involves the use of multiple wavelength double pulse approaches to increased sensitivity of the LIBS technique. He also teaches chemistry labs as well as aids graduate student with research activities.
