MODULE
I
In this module, we will
get acquainted with the medium of WEB-CT, Internet search tools, e-mail
utilities and continue with our introduction of Forensic Science by
browsing the NET for topics of interest. |
OBJECTIVES
- Introduce
you to the web-ct medium (sign-on, send e-mail address to instructors,
etc.)
- Navigation
of the Internet in search of resources related to Forensic Science and
Microscopy
- Introduce
yourself to the rest of the class in this week’s forum (Bulletin
Board)
- Graduate
students can begin their assignment of constructing a web page
|
| Introduction to Web-CT
If you made it this far, you are halfway home. By now, you should have
e-mailed the instructor that you have successfully signed on. Now take
some time and browse through the features of web CT. It will take
some time and practice but you'll be cruising before you know it. |
| Navigation through the
Internet
I’m sure by now most of you have been surfing the net for
information and the course will require that you do some net surfing,
accessing sites of interest. The instructor of this course assumes that
you are net literate and I don’t intend to spend time teaching you the
basics of the internet. If you are NOT familiar with the internet
features: search engines, downloading files, getting and installing
plug-ins and utilities (such as Adobe Acrobat), take some time NOW and
become familiar with these internet features. You may also want to ask a
friend to help you.
Also, you may want to become familiar with the web-ct tools. Feel free
to browse around and get a feel for the web-ct format. |
Assignment 1: Do a search
(with the Google.com search engine) of the words: Microscopy. Scroll down
the page until you find the following:
go to the Oklahoma University site (first hit) and find 1) History of
light microscopy (read this) and 2) Light Microscopy, an on-line tutorial.
Read Intro to microscopy and bright field microscopy. These two topics
will be covered in class next Saturday. |
| Assignment 2: E-mail Dr.
Almirall that you have successfully logged on to Web-CT, if you haven’t
done so already. |
| Assignment 3: Use the
Bulletin Board feature of Web-CT to post a message introducing yourself to
rest of the class. This introduction should contain your name, e-mail
address, major, professional aspirations, work experience and personal
hobbies. |
| Assignment 4: Go
to the National Science Education Standards at http://books.nap.edu/html/nses/pdf/index.html
and download and read Chapter 3 “Science Teaching Standards”. (You
will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in your computer in order to
be able to read this file. If you don’t have it, you can get it free
from www.adobe.com
). This document will be useful to you when you put your lesson plans
together. |
