Just to show you that I am not a total physics geek I thought I should put a
few personal things here. My wife is the talented and lovely Patti Stauffer.
We started dating in high school and she decided to marry me anyway. Here we
are before heading out to a political fund raiser.
We have one son, Will, who was born in 1994. He loves camping and exploring
the woods. This is a picture from a recent camping trip to Clearwater National
Forest in Idaho. Nothing better than hotcakes in the great outdoors.
| I grew up in a small town in eastern Iowa called Center
Point. There were 60 kids in my high school graduating class. There would
have been more but one guy got expelled a week before graduation. The school
has since consolidated with Urbana (our archenemy in my day) to form
CPU High .
My mother was a science teacher there 1979 until 2002. Yes,
I had her as a teacher--for physics no less! |

I went to the University
of Northern Iowa as an undergraduate where I majored in Physics (of
course) and Math and first developed a liking of Nuclear Physics thanks
to Dr. Roger Hanson. Life wasn't all school work (no, really). I enjoyed
taking in UNI sporting events, playing intermural softball and basketball (I
even got my ass waxed wrestling one year), and the occasional rock concert
(not too many big names play the cornfields of Iowa). |
| From there I went off to the big city of Bloomington,
Indiana to attend grad school at Indiana
University. What can I say about the blah-blah years I spent in grad
school? It was interesting, it was fun, it was hell. Just what you might
expect. |

As you can tell by the wallpaper I am a
St. Louis Cardinals Fan.
So far, 2004 has been a great year to be a Cards fan...and a Cubs hater.
|
| Though I have been a Cards fan for 30 years, I
must admit to rooting heartily for the Florida
Marlins during since coming to Florida. We have attended most of their
post season games in 1997 and 2003. Love that Bartman fellow. |
