What to do with 6XX _1 subject headings (Children's subject headings) on non-DLC/DLC records:
- delete the 6XX _1 heading when there is a legitimate 6XX _0 heading which is just like the 6XX _1.
- when there is not a matching legitimate 6XX _0, check to see if the subject heading in the 6XX _1 field is in fact a legitimate LC subject heading. If it is, change it to 6XX _0 and subdivide it by an appropriate juvenile form subdivision in subfield v. The most common ones are:
- if the 6XX _1 is not a legitimate LC subject heading, look for an obvious comparable LC subject heading--for example, Babies is a children's subject heading; Infants is the comparable adult subject heading. As above, the adult heading should be subdivided by the appropriate juvenile form subdivision.
- if there is no obvious comparable LC subject heading, check with Mirtha.
Note: children's subject headings are coded "Subj: b" in the fixed field of series authority records.
