Problem Solving for Physics I

Dr. Prem Chapagain

This course is an optional supplement to the Physics I courses. It is intended to give you some additional insight in how to solve the kinds of problems that you will encounter in doing your homework and on the exams. We will go over various techniques and some general rules of thumb for solving physics problems. One thing that I won't do is your homework for you. However, I will be happy to use class time to help you get started on some of the more difficult problems. The hope is that this course will help you achieve a better grade in your Physics I course.

Textbook
We will use the same textbook that you use for your PHY-I class. It is important that you try to work some of the problems from your book prior to each class.

Homework
There will be no homework assigned.

Grading
Grades will be based 80% on attendance and 20% on in class exercises. Both will be graded on a 0-10 point scale. You will be allowed one unexcused absence. After that, you will receive a zero for each missed class. The exercises will consist of guided problems and the grading will be based on your participation and effort.
