Dr. Nur Ritter notes (personal communcation) that Equisetum giganteum is a relatively uncommon component of Bolivian wetlands, but tends to cover large areas of the wetland systems it inhabits.  He also mentions that it is "one of the few wetland species that I've encountered in both the Dry Interandean Valleys and the wet montane (i.e. cloud forest) habitats on the other (eastern) side of the Andes.  It also gets into the lowlands, as well."
