Giant Equisetum in Venezuela

        Equisetum giganteum, or perhaps E. x schaffneri which also occurs frequently in Venezuela (Hauke, 1963 ), taken during February 2002 in the Sierra Nevada de Mérida, above Mérida, Edo. Mérida, Venezuela.  The habitat was rather open secondary shrubland; altitude 1595 m.  The stems reached a maximum diameter of 2.0 cm and height of 3.56 m.  Photos by Wim° de Winter.
