PPP Database (last update 9/20/10)
Of the following flat files, the PPP Locality, Subsample and Faunal Data files
are in an Excel (.xls) format, and the PPP References File is in the .rtf format. The
Faunal Data files contain taxon occurrence data for fossils collected by the
Panama Paleontology Project, primarily from stratigraphic units on the Caribbean
side of Panama and Costa Rica, and were submitted by authors of chapters in the
1999 book edited by Collins and Coates, A Paleobiotic Survey of Caribbean Faunas from the Neogene of the
Isthmus of Panama, Bulletins of American Paleontology no. 357; they
have been compressed or "zipped" using Winzip. You can download pkunzip to expand or "unzip" these files.

A Data Model for the PPP
Karl Kaufmann (Database Consultant, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute)
and Laurel Collins (PPP Data Manager) developed a logical data model for the PPP. This is a model of how the project
operates and will be used to set up a new database to contain all of
the collections data of the project. When data transfer is completed it will replace
the current PPP database.
