Location Achziv is a site on the northern coast of Israel, about 26 km (16 miles) north of Haifa Bay, in a peaceful area of the western Galilee. It is a coastal Tel site, located on one of the most beautiful beaches in Israel. Its boundaries are fixed by two river outlets: on the north, Nahal Keziv, and on the South, Nahal Shaal. A shallow lagoon is located just west of the site, while the harbor was likely located to the south of the tel, by the mouth of Nahal Shaal. About a kilometer from the shore the small Achziv islets were used as quarries as well as for anchorages during antiquity. Much of the prosperity of the site derived from its location on the coastal highway leading along the coast of Palestine into Lebanon, via the Ladder of Tyre (Sulam ridge) just to the north.
