EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP 
EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST (ED.S.) DEGREE PROGRAM

The Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree program in Educational Leadership is intended to provide professional educators with an opportunity to develop competencies in areas of special needs and interests in the field of Educational Administration/Leadership.  Consequently, there are few required courses and each student’s program is individually planned in consultation with a faculty advisor. The program may be used to satisfy part of the requirements of the Florida Department of Education for state certification in Educational Leadership. 

Admission Requirements:

Candidates seeking admission to the Educational Specialist degree program in Educational Leadership must file an application form with the University’s Office of Admissions. The program faculty reviews each application and makes its recommendation on admission to the Office of Admissions. The Office of Admissions notifies applicants of the decision on their applications. 

Admission to the program is based on the following criteria: 

1. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution and 
     a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 
     semester hours of undergraduate work. 
2. A master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution and a 
     grade point average of at least 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) in all graduate 
     work attempted. 
3. A minimum combined score of 800 on the verbal and quantitative 
     portions of the Graduate Record Examination (General Test). 
4. At least three years of successful full-time teaching experience and
     a regular Florida teaching certificate. 

Program Requirements:

The program of studies (a minimum of 13 courses/39 semester hours) is to be planned in consultation with and approved by a faculty advisor. The structure of the program is as follows: 

EDA 6061: Introduction to Educational Leadership (3) 
EDF 6608: Social, Philosophical and Historical Foundations of Education (3) 
EDF 6211: Psychological Foundations of Education (3) 
xxx xxxx: Guided Electives in Educational Administration/Leadership (24) 
xxx xxxx: Guided Electives in Research/Statistics/Measurement & Evaluation (6) 

To remain in academic good standing, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.
