A Developmental Assessment is a "snapshot" of your child's development at the present time. Current levels of your child's communication, cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development are compared to those of their age mates. Your child's current strengths and challenges are noted. Recommendations for optimizing your child's healthy development are made. If problems are found, our counselors will make recommendations to you for addressing them.
Sometimes parents wonder if their child is developing normally for their age. Sometimes parents are worried about their child's behavior, or they are worried that a troubling experience or family stress may be affecting their child. Or, some parents simply want to know as much about their child's development as they can.
Call the Youth and Family Development to set up a time for our team to assess your child. You should allow about 2 hours for the assessment. We will assess your child's communication, social, emotional, cognitive, and motor development. We will observe you and your child playing with structured and unstructured games and toys. We will also gather information from you about your child's history, as well as your own concerns and observations of your child.
Within 2 weeks we will share with you the written results of our evaluations.
In this meeting, we will work with you to develop a plan which addresses the
your most important concerns. Our plan will also outline appropriate goals
and objectives for your child's continued development. Based on our findings,
we will give you suggestions that may benefit your child. These might include
home-based enrichment activities, parenting workshops for you, social-emotional
skills workshops for your child, play therapy for your child, parent-child
filial therapy, referral to a specialist, re-evaluation in several months--or
a combination of these.
