Workshops & Counseling

Throughout our lifespan, we encounter many challenges. Most of these challenges involve our relationships with other people. Some challenges come from life transitions we expect. Some challenges catch us by surprise. Some are exciting, and some are overwhelming. And sometimes we can benefit from help and support as we strive to master them. Youth and Family Development Program counselors are trained to provide the help and support you may need to master the challenges of life. As an aid to enriching your relationship with your partner, your child, and yourself, we offer workshops and counseling.

Fees for counseling and psychotherapy are based on a sliding scale, and tend to be nominal. Some fees are reduced for research participants. (More Information)

Relationship Enrichment Workshops

Active Parenting Now (for parents) and EQ for Kids (for children ages 5 to 12)

6-Week workshops for parents and children. You will learn skills that will help you develop cooperation, responsibility and self-esteem in your child. You will also learn positive, non-violent discipline techniques that convey encouragement, mutual respect, and love to your child.

Psychotherapy & Counseling

Filial Parent-Child Therapy

Filial Parent-Child Therapy is individually coached parent/child therapy. In this special form of family therapy, adults learn to engage in “naturally therapeutic” play to create closer, happier times with a child. You will learn to listen in a new way that gives you the keys to your child's inner world. We will show you how to use discipline in ways that get results.

Individual Adult & Couples Counseling

Sometimes it helps to have a special time and place to talk things over with a counselor. Counselors at the Youth and Family Development Program apply mental heath, psychological, and human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioral or systemic interventions. Our strategies will target your wellbeing and personal growth in addition to the alleviation of symptoms and psychopathology.

Individual Child Play Therapy

Sometimes it helps to have a special time and place to play. Children use play to commuicate their feelings, wishes, hopes and fears. When you or your family are going through a challenging time, play therapy may facilitate your child's healthy adjustment.
