CUBA PRESS

The six dissidents who maintained a liquids only fast in Santa clara during the past four months obtained on Thursday their conditional liberty in exchange for leaving the country.

According to a communique received from them, they will continue hospitalized until they are recuperated and there is no fixed date yet to leave the country nor which country they will go to. Some of them are in domestic reclusion. The six members of the Pro-Human Rights Party, affiliated with the Andrei Sahkarov Foundation, are Daula Carpio Matta, 33 years; Iván Lemas, 35; José Manuel Yera, 47; José Antonio Alvarado, 33; Lilian Meneses, 47; and Ileana Peñalver Duque, 26

Eleven, in total, initiated the fast. Four abandoned the fast because of families and friends concerned over there worsening health; and one desisted by his own determination. At every moment the fasters were attended to by the Dr. Armando Isaacs Ocaña, of the Democratic Action Movement..

More than 20 dissident organizations in the island and in the diaspora supported the fast, which began on October 9 due to the surprising imprisonment of Carpio on trumped up charges by the state.
