Cuban-American pop star Gloria Estefan on Thursday blamed Cuban President Fidel Castro for the 38-year-old US embargo against the communist-led island and for the "suffering" of its people.
She said the real embargo was the one the Castro, 74, imposes against Cubans.
"There is everything one needs in Cuba, but the only people who cannot enjoy this are Cubans, because of the embargo maintained by Fidel, who is the only one responsible for their suffering," she told the Mexican news agency Notimex.
"Fidel has control over the money, over the people, he runs an oppressive and terrorist government," said Estefan, who was in Mexico to promote her latest CD "Alma Caribena" -- Spanish for "Caribbean soul" -- which she recorded together with salsa great Celia Cruz, also a Cuban-born Castro foe.
