Independent Union Members in Granma Fast

HAVANA, June 11, 1999 (Carmelo Díaz Fernández, APSIC) – Members of the Feminist Humanitarian Front, Christian Union of Cuba, Democratic Solidarity Party of Bayamo, capital of the province of Granma, as well as the Peace, Progress, and Liberty Movement in the city of Matanzas announced that they would maintain a fast for 40 days in solidarity with their brothers at Tamarindo 34 in Havana.

Among the fasters who represent these organizations are Addis Alcolea Gutiérrez, Ricardo Aramís Jiménez, Raúl Chávez and José Ramón Núñez, all of whom agreed that to demand liberty for political prisoners and that human rights was a civic and ethical position that had to be respected and that has to be seconded.
