In death as in life, tourists take precedence over Cubans

CIENFUEGOS, January 9 (Alina Gonzalo, Cuba-Verdad) – Two foreign tourists and two Cubans died in an automobile wreck here at the end of December; the foreigners’ bodies were placed in caskets, the Cubans were thrown over the caskets to be transported.

Passersby were visibly bothered by the different treatment accorded the bodies. A passing bus driver yelled out of the window of his bus: "Hey, are there no caskets for Cubans?"

The accident took place at kilometer 165 of the national highway when a tourist taxi, carrying an Italian man and his son, struck another car belonging to the "La Plata" cooperative, in which were traveling a Cuban man and his wife.
