Havana, August, 1997 By Omar Rodríguez Saludes (ANP)

Action File No. 39 of 1997 has been assigned by the Cuban government to process Attorney René Gómez Manzano, President of the dissident group known as Corriente Agramontista, who remains under detention at the maximum State Security Headquarters known as Villa Maristas since July 6th. He is being charged with distributing enemy propaganda. His brother, Jorge Gómez, declared that changes could still be made to those charges inasmuch as the file is still in its preliminary phase.

In addition, Jorge Gómez informed that Attorney Sorribes, of the Rancho Boyeros municipal law offices, will serve as defense attorney on behalf of Gómez Manzano.

Economist Marta Beatriz Roque, university professor Félix Bonne Carcassés, the President of the Cuban Social Democratic movement, Vladimiro Roca and Attorney René Gómez Mansano authored the document entitled The Homeland Belongs to Us All containing a rebuttal to the Cuban Communist party's official Project Document which will serve as the basis for the party's V Congress scheduled to take place in Havana on October 10th.

The four dissidents, who are also activists of the Internal Dissidence Support Group, were detained in the early morning hours of July 16th following a thorough search of their homes.
