FROM CUBA:
HAVANA, January 14 (APIC) - The Independent Press Agency of Cuba (APIC) wishes to denounce in the strongest possible terms the abuse committed against our chief correspondent, Mr. Nicolas Rosario-Rozabal, who was attacked by two government-paid thugs at the Santiago de Cuba railway station while on his way to Havana.
It mattered nothing to these thugs that the large number of people on hand witnessed the cruel spectacle of the beating given to the distinguished journalist. As a result of having to tend to the injuries he sustained, Mr. Rosario-Rozabal had to cancel his trip. This is a demonstration of the total disregard of the communist regime toward human rights.
APIC petitions the international media, and especially Journalists without Borders (Reporters sans frontieres), whom we represent in Cuba, as well as human rights organizations, to make known to the Castro government the condemnation of the world community toward what has occurred. Signed: the Executive Board of APIC.
