Opposition Activist Theresa Plateros Still Being Held by Political Police

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba 29 June 1997 (El Nuevo Herald) - The representative of the Cuban Human Rights Party (PPDH) for Cienfuegos City, Teresa Plateros Rodriguez, continues under arrest in the provincial headquarters of State Security.

Plateros, 58, was arrested on 21 June by the National Revolutionary Police and State Security.

Government agents raided Ms. Plateros' home on that date and seized PPDH documents, political denouncements, flyers, and banned foreign magazines, according to independent press spokesman Lazaro Lazo.

Lazo added that just prior to her detention, State Security had prohibited her from traveling to Villa Clara Province, declaring her a persona non grata in that region for her political activities.
