FROM CUBA

Two Young Technicians Fired For Consorting With Dissidents

LAS TUNAS, August 14 (Ramón Humberto Colás, Lux InfoPress) – A man and his wife were fired from their jobs by special order of the vice minister of the armed forces for their relationship to Cuban dissidents.

Fernando Mexidor Vázquez, 32, a technician in mineral geology, and his wife, Judelmis Almanza, 19, a technician in geodesics and cartography, were fired from their jobs at GeoCuba by order of general Julio Casas Regueiro on August 8. A week before, Mexidor had been expelled from the Communist Party for the same reasons.

Mexidor is a brother of known dissident Berta Mexidor Vázquez and a brother in law of this correspondent, with whom he shares living quarters since the latter were evicted from the home they occupied for 13 years.

The management at GeoCuba says that the technicians’ relationship to the dissidents makes it impossible for them to work as armed forces civilians in that firm.
