
About FLASH
The
Families Learning at School & Home (FLASH) Academic Excellence Program
is a College of Education project funded through the U.S. Office of
Bilingual Education and Minority Languages Affairs (OBEMLA). It is
designed to train linguistically and culturally diverse parents/caregivers
in the areas of ESL/literacy and school involvement. The
FLASH project and its curricular materials are available for adoption.
Assistance in start-up, implementation, and follow-up are provided by
project staff.
| The
FLASH program has the following goals: |
- Improving the literacy skills of linguistically and culturally diverse
families
- Increasing their English language proficiency to facilitate their
successful adjustment to a new society
- Assisting parents/caregivers in developing specific competencies which
will enable them to play a more active role in their children's
educational process
- Improving
the academic skills of ESOL students who participate in the program with
their parents

part of the adoption process, FLASH program staff offer the following
services: |
- Complete
set of the FLASH Curriculum, including the
- On-site
FLASH Awareness and Implementation Training Workshop for all staff
involved
- On-going
technical assistance and monitoring via telephone, electronic mail and
site visits
