CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Students plan change in their work/practice place in their home country by utilizing knowledge about nursing care with families in another country.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Adapt family-focused theory, assessment and intervention learned in or about another country/culture to the conditions in a home-based health care setting.
2. Propose the introduction and evaluation of a change
in family-focused nursing that is congruent with the culture of the families
served in a home-based health care setting.
CLASS SCHEDULE: Arranged intensive study seminar. Guided
field

TOPICAL OUTLINE:
Week 1: Planning
the implementation of an idea for change
Week 2: Writing
a proposal
Week 3: Planning
introduction of the change and evaluation
with the
health care agency.
TEACHING STRATEGIES
Discussions, consultation and guidance by instructor,
meetings with
agency
administrators, focus group(s) with clients and staff.

JUSTIFICATION:
This course is developed as
part of a grant from FIPSE with the aim of education health professionals in
international family-focused health care.
It is the concluding course through which students are guided to apply
what they have learned to better serve ethnic clients.
There is no like course at
FIU.
This course has the
potential to be opened to students of other health professions who can be
supervised by their own instructors.
