How to Prepare for a Tornado

Once you hear that there is a tornado warning or that a tornado has touched down in your area:

  • For homes: move to a small interior room away from the windows.
  • For mobile and manufactured homes: make previous arrangements to go to a nearby safe- structure within walking distance; once the warning is issued, move to the identified location · For vehicles: leave the automobile and look for refuge in a building. DO NOT try to outrun the tornado.
  • For offices, condominiums, and hotels: move to an interior hallway on a lower floor, closet or small room; as a last resort, get under heavy furniture, away from windows.
