Frank de Varona is an educator, historian, and internationally known expert on Hispanic history and issues who has served  as Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Florida International University (FIU) since 1997. Prior to his tenure at FIU, Mr. de Varona had a 30-year distinguished career in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a social studies teacher, principal, and associate superintendent.

 Mr. de Varona has written 15 books, and published many articles and chapters in magazines and books in the United States and Spain. His latest book is Latino Literacy: A Complete Guide to Our Hispanic History and Culture (Henry Holt & Company, 1996). Mr. de Varona has also written curriculum for school districts, and has been a consultant in Spain, Dominican Republic, and Honduras as well as various school districts in the United States.
