Text: Roller, B. Foundations of Human Physiology Lab Manual
Course Description :
The Foundations of Human Physiology Lab (PCB 2099L) is a one semester survey lab
course of select organ systems of the human body.
It is intended
for pre-nursing students and non-science majors fulfilling UCC requirements.
Grading Policy/Course Protocol:
There will be 3 lab exams (20% each ) and a cumulative final (40%) administered this semester, of which all will be calculated to determine the final grade. The exam (1 hour time limit) comprise information from material covered in previous lab exercises and discussions.
Lab protocol requires that all students bring to each session the course the lab manual, notebook, and lab coat.
Be advised that unpreparedness can only result in lab session bewilderment and poor semester grades! Lab session attendance is mandatory!
Students missing lab sessions will result in overall semester point deductions (20 points per missed lab). The grading scale for this course is as follows:
A=100-90, B=89-80, C=79-70, D=69-60, F=59-0. There are absolutely no make-up exams (this constitutes a zero score) .
Extenuating circumstances beyond the student’s control
accompanied by the appropriate documentation (death in immediate family member requires
official bereavement statement; student/immediate family member acute/terminal
illness requires official
hospital/clinic discharge notification; traffic accident requires
official accident report; jury duty requires official clerk summons) will be taken into
consideration and the student must reschedule an exam within the week or (if applicable) request an «Incomplete »
grade ».
Candidates for
grades of « Incomplete » include those students that have completed
60% of the course work satisfactorily (C
grade) and cannot justifiably finish the course
(planned
vacations/business trips do not constitute a serious interruption).
PCB 2099L rules:
1. No food or drinks in the lab.
2. Electronic commmunication equipment should silenced so as to not encumber the
learning process of others.
3. Disruptive behavior is deemed unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
4. Cheating during exams is a direct violation of the FIU student conduct code
and will result in a failing grade for the course and/or administrative action.
If any of the preceding
information elicits a conflict of interest, you are strongly urged to
drop the course !
*Please be advised
that the syllabus schedule of events is subject to change at the instructor’s
discretion !
Best of luck to all and have a pleasant semester!
