Brief Description of the Program:

        The Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International University offers Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences. During their studies, students have access to laboratories, field research and travel opportunities. Students can concentrate on following research areas.
  • Aquatic and Wetlands Ecology
  • Botany
  • Evolutionary Biology and Systematics
  • Forensic Biology
  • Genetics/Molecular/Biochemistry/Cell Biology
  • Immunology/Developmental Biology
  • IntegrativeBiology/Physiology/Neurobiology/Anatomy
  • Marine Biology
  • Microbiology
  • Terrestrial Ecology
  • Tropical Biology
  • Vertebrate Biology/Herpetology/Ichthyology/Mammology/Ornithology



Application Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • A grade point average of 3.0 or higher at the undergraduate level and a score of 1120 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • A statement of interest.
  • A faculty sponsor.
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who are in a position to evaluate the applicant's previous professional, academic and personal performance, and his or her potential for success in the graduate program.


Additional Requirements for International Students:

  • A minimum 550 on the TOEFL -- Paper vs Computer based scores.
  • A minimum 50 on the TSE for TAs.
  • Certification of financial ability.
  • Medical insurance.
