Making sense of graphs is
partly about knowing what graphing choices you have and partly about
being able to distinguish which choice is the best one for your purpose.
The rest of this tutorial is designed to help you select the correct
graph
and the best graph to convey your message to your audience. Please read
the instructions below for completing this tutorial.
Instructions:
- If you have not yet read the Purpose, Objectives,
and Philosophy of Graphing sections at least once,
please return to the Home page and enter
as a first time visitor.
- Next, familiarize yourself
with all four graphs: pie, bar, line,
and scatter plot.
- Next, study the Interchangeability
of Graphs and Misleading Graphs sections. Note that
both these sections require the prerequisite knowledge that you
gained in Step 2.
- Finally, go to the Apply
Your Knowledge section and answer all the scenario questions.
This section requires you to synthesize and apply all the previous
materials.
- After each section, you
will have a chance to test your understanding by anwering some multiple
choice and true/false questions. For each multiple choice
question, you will have two chances to
choose the correct answer. For the true/false, you
will have one chance.
- If you wish, you can use
the Next links to proceed in a linear fashion through the
entire tutorial or you can use the menu on the next
