Honors Seminar III
Harvey
Final Instructions
Final Exam Dialogue:
Specific time to be
arranged for Dec. 9 (Mon), 10 (Tues), or 11 (Wed)
Final Exam Go-Site Option--Due Dec 11 (Wed) by 5:00
You have a choice: you may either have a fifteen-minute dialogue with me about what you've read this semester or submit a review of the "Go" sites (far right column) associated with our readings.
Dialogue: you cannot prepare for it, as the conversation will be based upon what you've thought throughout the semester. My goal will be less to find out what you don't know, than to find out what you do know. It is quite possible that I might just ask about one or two books and that we would have a healthy conversation about those two books, or some aspect of them. Or I might ask you about four or five books. Just as with a real conversation: it isn't very predictable. You should not--or ideally you will not--feel like you are being "grilled" or "quizzed." This is a classy, sophisticated way of being tested--a much more intellectually mature exercise than most finals you will take, appropriate for an Honors class.
Go-Site Option: the lack of predictability, general nervousness, discomfort speaking to professors--those or other reasons might lead you to be less than keen on the Dialogue final. So I offer this option: review the "Go" sites (far right column) associated with our readings. The goal is to demonstrate you've visited them, and have thought about the material at each site as it relates to our texts. Obviously, some sites are more thought-productive than others. Your review should be single-spaced, and at least two pages long. It should be no longer than five pages long.
Everyone should sign up for the Dialogue time slots. If you do not show up, I will then assume that you will be turning in the "Go-Site" option on Dec. 11. (I.e., this gives you maximum freedom to manage your own time during finals weeks).
