The banishment of the YB proves that rape or even attempted rape proves unacceptable in their society. Regarding the rape, the older brother’s wife lies. However, the impression given to us by the actions of the husband, when he gives his wife away, is that he knows or suspects this. Therefore, she too suffers the punishment of banishment. Here, one also sees that a husband remains the head of a household.
