Oral Report Instructions and Sign-Up Sheet
Because four or five reports will be given each day and we will be doing other things in class as well, it is crucial that delivery time be very brief—5 minutes or so.
The goal of the report is not to replicate your paper in condensed fashion, orally. The best public speakers rarely try to be comprehensive—they make only a few points, but make them strongly, with visual aids or effective gestures and eye contact.
You should focus on some aspect of your project: perhaps show several photos of the cultural site and highlight three significant points; or tell us how stereotypes were eroded or reinforced by your experience (i.e., depending on the site, stereotypes could indeed be reinforced); or tell us how the site/experience frustrated you. There are lots of possibilities.
Do not read. Use very minimal notes: a main goal is to encourage you to become relatively script-free when you are reporting. The less script you have, the more freedom you will have to use natural hand gestures, body movement, eye contact with the class/audience, etc.
I will pass around the sign-up sheet below in class for you to select the date most convenient for you.
