A.
- Resume Building Critique:
Our office is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm.
If you need help building, updating, or
just like a different opinion about your
resume, come by and see us in HM 216!
We will be happy to go over your resume
with you.
B. - Employment
Opportunities:
Employment Opportunities: Web Postings
http:/www.fiu.edu/hmcareer: This is
one of our most important and most
frequently used features. We have a large
number of companies that send us career
opportunity information weekly, biweekly
or monthly. Every time a company sends us
information via email, an email is sent to
the Hospitality Management student body.
The information sent to the students is
immediately posted on the Career
Development web site. The web site is
updated on a daily basis. Most companies
send us information via email which is
sent to you via email and it is also
posted on our web site. Every once in a
while we receive faxes regarding immediate
openings as well as positions that require
the office to send a candidate with
specific qualifications. These
opportunities are announced by email for
you to stop by the office and learn about
them.
C. Contact
Referrals: From time to time
you may see a company name, but no list of
positions. The listing will display the
company name, street address, contact
name, phone, fax, or email, and
instructions on when the company takes
applications or conducts interviews. We
encourage you to use this contact
information in your employment search.
D. Career Fairs:
Every Spring and Fall Semesters we
organize a Career Fair with hospitality
and travel and tourism companies
interested in meeting with Hospitality
Management and Travel and Tourism
students. The Career Fairs are a great
opportunity to find out about employment
opportunities, company information and
most important: to NETWORK! Our faculty
members recognize the importance of these
events; and may allow you to leave class
early or arrive late. So take advantage
of the opportunity to meet many company
representatives in one day at one
convenient location.
THE CAREER FAIR FALL
2004 IS SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER
29, 2004 from 10AM to 3PM.
E. Poster
Presentations: Every semester
we have several companies visit our
campus. Company representatives enjoy
meeting students, talking to the
professors, and bringing information about
their organization to interested students
and faculty. When a company requests a
visit, students and faculty members are
notified by email about the date and time
of the visit, as well as the area in our
building where company representatives and
information will be available. If
interested, stop by and spend a few
minutes with the representatives!
F. On-campus
Recruitment: If you are
graduating in August, keep in mind that in
the Spring and Fall semesters the School
of Hospitality Management provides its
graduating students with a Mandatory
Graduation Workshop Orientation. Last
Spring, this seminar was offered ON
FRIDAY, JAN. 23, 2004. If you missed the
workshop, you can stop by HM 216 and make
an appointment to see the videotapes.
This workshop gives the students an
opportunity to learn about resume writing,
interview skills, company research,
on-line job search, and mock interviews.
The orientation also prepares graduates
for on-campus recruitment.
For four weeks in the Spring and four
weeks in the Fall, large companies such as
Marriott, Hilton, Brinker, and Loews
select a day to visit and talk with our
students about management training
programs, management opportunities, and
long-term employment.
RECRUITMENT IS
SCHEDULED TO START ON WEDNESDAY, SEEP. 29,
2004 with the Career Fair Fall 2004.
Again, faculty members cooperate with our
students by letting them take the time to
attend company information sessions and
receptions. On-campus recruitment gives
students the opportunity to be interviewed
at the School, for some significant career
opportunities.
The School of
Hospitality and Tourism Management is the
only school in FIU that provides these
many IN-HOUSE services to its students.
Take advantage of all the events,
companies visits, workshops, and on-line
resources.
The Career Development Office is here to
help you succeed in your employment and
internship search. Come by and visit us
in HM 216. We will be happy to work with
you!
