From the Haitian Student Organization to you, welcome! Haitian Student Organization is a club under the Council of Student Organization and is open to anyone and everyone. The organization was formed with the intent to familiarize the students of the university with the Haitian culture and customs. Over the years, the organization has tried to bring forth this rich culture through different types of events. Each semester, cultural events are prepared where Haitian students display their country's dances, songs, music, and poetry.

We, the students of the Florida International University, aspiring to cultivate the unification of students of Haitian descent, aim to establish an organization of such students. This organization intends to provide a strong base and community for those of Haitian descent as well as those interested in the Haitian culture; to propogate educational, historical, social, and cultural enrichment to the students of the FIU community via the various executed endeavors about Haiti and the Haitian community; to promote not only social but self awareness amongst those students of Haitian descent; assist in bringing to light the historical and present day accomplishments of Haitian people from around the world; and the full immersion of our constituents in support of FIU within and throughout FIU Community. Thus, we do hereby ordain and establish this Constitution of the Haitian Student Organization of the Florida International University.

Florida International University since its inception in 1965, has been making continuous and significant strides in establishing itself as a premiere institute of higher education not only in Florida, but in the United States. Throughout the years, the population of minority students has drastically increased. And with that, was the increase of students of Haitian descent. With the exponential growth of students of Haitian descent in the fabric of the FIU community, a need was created. The need for an organization that catered exclusively to the needs of the rising population of students of Haitian descent. Thus, in the fall of 1988, Haitian Student Organization was founded. This organization formed organization not only to unify all those of Haitian descent, but formed with the intent, via food, music, and various programs executed on campus, to educate and culturally enrich the students of the university with the Haitian culture and customs. Over the years, the organization has successfully brought forth this rich culture through the various events that have done on campus and look to continue to do so in the years to come.
