This is a Lissajou figure, a curve defined by parametric equations involving trig functions with two different periods [see Anton Ch 10]. As you can see it's been animated, so now there is an extra variable [so x, y, t1 and t2] and 3 periods. I created this mainly with MathGV, which is a free download.
