Types.
Institutes/Centers registered by the Florida Board
of Education are classified into three categories:
Type
I Centers and Institutes have statewide missions,
may involve more than one university, and may be specifically
authorized/established and/or funded by the Legislature.
Type
II Centers and Institutes are established by a single
university; in some instances, additional institutions
may participate. Type II institutes/centers may expend
a combination of state and external funds.
Type
III Centers and Institutes are established by a
single university; in some instances, additional institutions
may participate. Type III institutes/centers expend
only external funds.
Museum
There are two museums at FIU.
Other
Organized Areas of Focus are established inside
departments or other centers to focus in specific areas
of research, training or service.
