The following section outlines the Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution involvement in the Admissions Clearance Process:
1 1. 1. When the applicant completes his/her FIU application and indicates either “yes” or neglects to check off an answer to one of the following questions, the application is placed on a “judicial hold” by the Office of Admissions. a.) □Yes □No Are you currently or have you ever been charged with or subject to disciplinary action for scholastic or any other type of misconduct at any educational institution?
b.) □Yes □No Have you ever been charged with a violation of the law which resulted in or, if still pending, could result in, probation, community service, a jail sentence, the revocation or suspension of your driver's license (including traffic violations which resulted in a fine of $200 or more)?
If your records have been expunged pursuant to applicable law, you are not required to answer yes to these questions. If you are unsure whether you should answer yes to these questions, we strongly suggest that you answer yes and fully disclose all incidents. By doing so you can avoid any risk of disciplinary action or revocation of an offer of admissions.
2. If completing an on-line application, the Office of Admissions will generate an automatic letter explaining the documentation that must be submitted to complete the application process.
3. An applicant does not have to wait to receive this letter in order for the application process to continue. All applicants must submit the following documentation in order for a review and recommendation to be made: a. A personal statement with a written description detailing the circumstances of the situation. Please include your name, PantherSoft Identification number or social security number, and a telephone number you you can be reached on your statement
NOTE- Please indicate in the personal statement what semester you are applying for and whether as an undergraduate, graduate, non-degree seeking, or readmissions applicant.
b. Copies of all documentation (i.e. police reports, arrest reports, court documents regarding the outcome and penalties, letter from probation officer(s) or phone number of officer, community service completion record, proof of completion of educational programs, copies of discipline decision letters, and/or any other documentation which might assist the Committee) explaining the pertinent facts.
4. An applicant should provide as much information as possible. This information will be reviewed by an Admissions Clearance Committee, which is chaired by a member within the office Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution. The Committee will contact the applicant if additional information is required. The Committee will make a recommendation to the Office of Admissions regarding the application for admissions. The recommendation will not be disclosed to the applicant.
5. The Admission Clearance process may take several weeks to complete. The Committee meets on a weekly basis and sends recommendations to the Office of Admissions.
Please allow 2-3 weeks for the Office of Admissions to process the recommendation and make a decision regarding an offer for admission to FIU.
6. An application will not proceed any further until all the above mentioned documentation is provided to the Admissions Clearance Committee. Once a recommendation has been made to the Office of Admission, the Office of Admission will be in communication with the student regarding his or her application. All communication regarding an application should be directed to the Office of Admissions at (305) 348-2363.
