General Description
This graduate level course in crisis intervention is designed
to assist students in understanding the nature of life crises which
in essence serve as the impetus for psychotherapeutic intervention.
An overview of developmental life crisis which often precipitate
the need for intervention will be reviewed.
Additionally, we will
explore the historical background of crisis intervention, introduce
salient concepts, theories and skills critical to the crisis intervention
process, and explore the relationship of counseling and interpersonal
skills to crisis intervention. The crisis intervention process including
crisis assessment, intervention, case management and follow up will
be examined.
This course will explore
interventions used for "emergency" situations and crises
