About the project:

  • This is an important longitudinal study of social networks and school adaptation in newly immigrant children and adolescents.
  • Participating children and adolescents are from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Haiti, and English-speaking Caribbean countries.
  • Approximately 600 children and adolescents were interviewed yearly, between fall, 2001 and spring, 2004.
  • Parents completed home surveys and teachers completed student assessment forms.
Who should apply:
    Undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining valuable research experience.
Research activities:
  • Translation and preparation of study materials
  • Data coding and entry
  • Library work
  • Participation in project meetings

Requirements for research credit:
  • At least 25 hours of research work for each credit (75 hrs. for 3 credits; about 6 hrs. per week).
