Text: Calculus, Early Transcendentals
- Ninth Edition, by Anton, Bivens and Davis.
Student Solutions Manual: optional.
Prerequisites: MAC 2311 (Calculus I) with a grade of ``C” or better.
Course
Description: Integration,
applications of integration, infinite series, polar coordinates, and parametric
equations.
Chapters to be studied: Chapter 5, Sections 4-10; Chapter 6, Sections 1-6; Chapter 7, Sections 1-5, 7-8; Chapter 9, Sections 1-10;
Chapter 10: Sections 1-3.
Grading policy: Weekly quizzes (80 pts in total), two tests (125 pts. each), and a cumulative final exam (170 pts.). Your grade will be based on your total scores. The grading scale is as follows:
450-500 A 385-399 B- 320-334 D+
435-449 A- 370-384 C+ 300-319 D
420-434 B+ 350-369 C 285-299 D-
400-419 B 335-349 C_ 0-284 F
The two lowest scores of your quizzes will be dropped. There will be no make-up quizzes.
You will have at least 7 days notice for an upcoming test. There will be no make-up tests. If you have a genuine emergency, you are expected to phone or email in advance, if possible (but no later than the day after the test); be prepared to document your written excuse (hospital bill and doctor's note, traffic tickets, etc.). If you are excused from a test, that percentage of your grade will be made up on the final (This policy applies to at most one test). Once you have started taking a test or quiz, you cannot be excused from that test or quiz.
The date and time of the final exam is firm (see the final exam schedule). The final exam must be taken to earn a passing grade in the course.
Incomplete Grade Policy: IN grade is given to a student only under the condition that the student has substantially completed (with a passing grade) most of the course but is unable to finish an exam or other work because of circumstances beyond his/her control. An incomplete grade cannot be given if it is necessary for the student to repeat the course. An incomplete grade must be made up within two semesters.
DR grade: To drop the course, you need to do it yourself before the deadline of dropping a course. If you simply stop coming to class,
you will receive an F grade.
Policy on academic misconduct: Any attempt of cheating on a test or a quiz will result in an F and further administrative action might be taken. A more complete definition of Academic Misconduct is given in the Student Handbook. Penalties for Academic Misconduct range from an F in the course to expulsion from the University.
Classroom Etiquette: Please avoid coming in late or leaving class early as such behavior is disruptive and hence inappropriate. If you miss an entire class, get notes and homework assignments from a classmate.
