Esperanza GarciaRubio, our Employee of the Month for April, is the perfect example of a Library Technical Assistant who has worked for many years in our libraries as well and in others and who now is in a position to bring to bear an extensive array of knowledge that she has acquired on the job. Her first library position was in the University of Florida Cataloging Department starting in September, 1965. From March, 1968 to October, 1973, she was Library Assistant II in the Catalog Department of the University of Miami's Richter Library.
Except for four years when she worked with Eastern Airlines, she has been a member of our staff since September of 1977 - mostly in Cataloging, but also in Documents and, for a year, in NMC Circulation.
Ms. GarciaRubio is currently in charge of the Series Authority File in the Catalog Department. She brings to this position a thorough knowledge and is, according to Mirtha Hernandez, the Catalog Department's expert and resource person in this area. She has done record creation, and is also expert in WordPerfect, spreadsheets, etc. She hopes to finish her undergraduate degree (she is currently enrolled at FIU) so that she can pursue a Master's in Library Science. Ms. Hernandez indicates that Ms. GarciaRubio is likely to become an outstanding librarian.
I know you will join me in extending to her welldeserved congratulations for the contribution she makes to the development and growth of the FIU Libraries, and for this recognition as our Employee of the Month.
