Employee of the Month October 1999

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Steven Switzer is our Employee of the Month for October. Steven is Library Technical Assistant Supervisor in charge of the Circulation Section at North Campus Library. He came to us with varied experience in the retail booktrade including service as Manager, the A.C. McClurg Bookstore at the Newberry Library in Chicago, one of the best-known privately-endowed libraries in U.S. He has also worked at Barnes & Noble in Aventura.

Nancy Hershoff, Head, Bibliographic Control Department, North Campus Library, calls Steven an "extraordinary individual." He is known as someone who goes the extra mile to do his job well and to get along with his colleagues, supervisors, and student assistants. During his short tenure in NC Library, he has been able to improve the quality of service at the circulation desk by working closely and patiently with his student assistants and colleagues. His professionalism, courtesy, and willingness to help has truly impressed patrons as well as his colleagues. Recently, he was elected Secretary of the Library Staff Association.

Steven Switzer is a great asset to the library and serves in one of the most difficult interfaces between staff and library users - the circulation desk. Please join me in congratulating him on this well-deserved recognition.
