MCB 3020 - GENERAL MICROBIOLOGY

Exam and Grading Policies

There will be 4  100 point exams over the course of the semester and a Comprehensive Final Exam = 200 points.  There are 600 total exam points.

EXAM TYPE: Regularly scheduled exams will be written and contain problems to solve, graphs to complete and interpret, and diagrams to draw.  There can be multiple forms of each exam.

ENTRY to EXAMS: Students must be present at the beginning of exams.  Students may not enter exams after THE FIRST PERSON LEAVES the exam.

CHEATING on an exam will result in official action.  Baseball or other brimed caps/hats ARE NOT ALLOWED to be worn durning an exam.  Cell phones should be turned OFF.  

CALCULATORS should have log and ln functions (log, 10x, ln, ex).  Graphing Calculators or Large Memory Calculators or Cell Phone Calculators ARE NOT ALLOWED.  The calculator should be the normal less than $20 scientific calculator ONLY.

MAKEUP EXAMS: will be essay exams and will only be given to students showing proof of medical reason(s) why the regularly scheduled exam could not be taken. If you are forced to miss an examination due to unforseeable circumstances, please contact either Dr. Makemson BEFORE the examination so that we won't expect you. You may use either voice mail or e-mail (click on "makemson" at end of the homepage). You will be asked to provide a written excuse (doctor's note, accident report, etc.). If you know that you will miss an exam beforehand and have a valid excuse, we will try to make arrangements so that you can take an exam early. Such exams will not be given more than 2 days before a regularly scheduled exam.

GRADING: Final grades calculated based upon each student's total grade will include their grade from all exams, none dropped or excluded.   Your final grade will be determined from your total points and then applied to Grade Distribution Curve.   The grades will come from a grading curve of which the lowest C (passing for majors) point will not go below 50% of the total points.

EXAMS RETURNED at the end of the next lecture.   Final exam can be picked up outside of OE246 two days after the exam.
