Cardinalate. Created cardinal bishop of Ostia in a consistory celebrated in 1134 in Pisa. Consecrated by Barthélemy, bishop of Laon (no further information found). Subscribed papal bulls issued between June 11, 1136 and November 30, 1137. He wrote a treatise on the Office divin, which was very appreciated.

Education. Joined the Canons Regular.

Priesthood. Ordained (no further information found). Initially, he was a monk at the monastery of Gorze, Lorraine. Later, ca. 1117, he was prior of the monasteries in Alsace and Maursmünster. Then, about 1126, he became abbot of the monastery of Gorze.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal bishop of Porto and Silva Candida (Santa Rufina) in a consistory celebrated in December 1134 (or 1135). Consecrated (no information found). Subscribed papal bulls issued between January 7, 1135 and May 18, 1140; November 26, 1143 and March 3, 1144; March 15, 1144 and January 31, 1145; March 10, 1145 and April 14, 1150. Legate in Germany in 1138; he crowned Konrad III, as king of the Romans, in Aix-la-Chapelle, in place of the archbishop of Cologne, who had not received the pallium. Participated in the papal election of 1143, in which Pope Celestine II was elected. Participated in the papal election of 1144, in which Pope Lucius II was elected. Participated in the papal election of 1145, in which Pope Eugenius III was elected. Legate in Syria in 1147; he participated, with Cardinal Guido Bellagi, in the conference celebrated in Ptolemaïs between Emperor Konrad III, King Louis VII of France, and King Badouin of Jerusalem, in view of the siege of Damascus.
