Summary: The hawksbill turtle, the official mascot of Thousand
Islands, in Indonesia are critically endangered. Due to increasing
pollution from Jakarta and other cities, the ecosystem has above
safe organic and heavy metals. These turtles are affected by the
pollution, debris, and oil spills. They are also directly affected
by humans who eat their eggs and sell their shells. Even in protected
national parks these turtles are not safe.

Summary: A new poisonous frog has been discovered in Colombia,
and it is believed to be categorized in the group of poison dart
frogs. It was named the "golden frog of Supatá."
Columbia is known for being a country rich in amphibian life.
However as with other places in the world the amphibian population
is declining due to reasons like an infection caused by a chytrid
fungus.

Summary: The Western Lowland Gorilla is now "critically
endangered". This is largely caused by the Ebola virus, which
has devastated the gorilla population by killing about one-third.
It will be very difficult to increase their numbers because the
average female begins to reproduce at age 8 or 10 and one does
so ever 5 years. Other species in danger are the Yangtze River
dolphin, the Redheaded Vulture, and the Gharial crocodile.
