Large scale instructional and research (I & R) systems currently
include: a Sun/Unix
UltraSPARC cluster (Solix). The
system is operated by Operations & Systems Programming
and is accessible through the
FIUnet.
For more
information, see
Sun/Unix
(Solix).
FIU's
IBM RS/6000 SP2 hardware complex hosts a number of special
academic applications. The largest single user of the SP2 is the
University's
Digital
Library Project,
which runs on four of the five existing SP2 "nodes." (A node is an
RS/6000 system in SP2 lingo).
Also resident on the SP2 is the WebCT course authoring system.
This Worldwide Web-based system was introduced to support the
College of Business Administration, as well as others, in
preparing Worldwide Web-based courses.
