The Professional Development Center at Florida
International University (FIU/PDC) provides highest quality, competency-based training for Family Safety staff within the Department of Children and Families, and to the child protection community at large. The Center operates as a member of a network of three training academies which provide similar training to the child protection community throughout the State of Florida. The PDC system headquarters is in Tallahassee. The catchment area for the FIU/PDC extends from Vero Beach south to Key West.

The PDC at FIU opened its doors in the summer of 1989. The Center is located on the beautiful FIU north campus, and is administratively housed in the School of Social Work, a division of the College of Urban and Public Affairs. As such, the PDC is situated to interface with and benefit from the learned individuals and wealth of resources within an institution of higher learning that has urban issues as its mission. District-based training sites are located in Pompano Beach,  Delray Beach, Fort Pierce, Miami and Marathon to better serve the training needs of the Department of Children and Families within the FIU/PDC catchment area.
