Bon Festival, 5pm-9pm, Saturday, August 9, 2003
Note: Museum closed 10am-5pm during festival setup.
The Morikami's most beautiful festival celebrates Obon, Japan's traditional
holiday honoring ancestors. Daylight carnival atmosphere of games, folk
dancing, rousing taiko drums and ghost stories transitions into the sunset
poignancy of candle-lit lanterns floating on the pond as spirits find
their way home. The brave crewmembers of Columbia will be honored this
year with a specially designed memorial boat. Fireworks cap off the enchanted
evening.
$10/adults; $7/members, $5/children under age12. Free age 3 and under.
Free parking.
