Four positions available in the Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at Florida International University seeks applicants for open rank, tenure track positions in three areas: (1) Child/ Adolescent Clinical Psychologyspecializing in research in ADHD and/or related disorders; (2) Developmental Psychology with research interests in child cognitive development or developmental neuropsychology/neuroscience; (3) Legal Psychology with an interest in interfacing with the FIU School of Law.
We also seek applicants for a non-tenure track Instructor position based on the Biscayne Bay Campus.

The Department of Psychology welcomes four new faculty members!
In August 2009 three new faculty members joined the Department of Psychology- Drs. Daniel Bagner, Valentian Bruk- Lee and Jeremy Pettit.
Dr. Daniel Bagner graduated from the University of Florida with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. He has specific interests in the prevention and treatment of young children with externalizing behavior problems and other at-risk populations. The author of over 30 research articles and book chapters, Dr. Bagner has received grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to conduct research.
Dr. Valentina Bruk- Lee earned a doctoral degree in Industrial/ Organizational Psychology from the University of South Florida. Her research is primarily focused on the topics of interpersonal conflict in organizations, employee satisfaction, occupational health and well-being, and job stress. Dr. Bruk-Lee has consulted with both private and public sector organizations in the areas of employee selection, job analysis, performance measurement, and competency modeling.
Dr. Jeremy Petit graduated from Florida State University with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. He conducts research on depression and suicidal behaviors in adolescence and emerging adulthood. In particular, his research focuses on the course of depression and suicidal behaviors over time, including interpersonal and cognitive factors that contribute to the onset, maintenance, and recurrence of these behaviors.
In January, Dr. William Pelham also joined the department. Formerly on faculty at the University of Buffalo, Dr. Pelham's area of interest is attention Deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents. He has authored or co-authored more than 275 professional papers dealing with ADHD and its treatment, both psychosocial and pharmacological. Dr. Pelham is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society, and past President of the Society of Child Clinical and Adolescent Psychology, the International Society for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychopathology, and the Professional Group for Attention Deficit and Related Disorders
Fall 2009 Careers & Research Conference for Undergraduates a success!
The Department of Psychology and FIU Career Services hosted the third annual Psychology Careers and Research Conference. This event was held this past October 2009 in the University Park Graham Center Ballroom.
All psychology major, minors and intended majors that attend this important all day event reported being very happy with the information provided. Those students planning to start their career upon graduation had to opportunity to identify what career resources are available to them, access additional resume building knowledge and connect with potential employers that traditionally hire students in from the field of psychology during the morning session. For those that were thinking about going on to graduate school, the afternoon sessioncovered the necessary key areas for preparation, application development and general graduate school planning.
Congratulations goes to Ms. Andrea Green, Director of the Department of Psychology Academic Advising Center, and all the department support staff for this success. They were the wheels behind the machine that made sure everything ran smoothly for the students.
