Brief Description of
GA Duties for Common Assistantships
*This list only serves as a general
description of past assistantships. Availability and
modification of duties are subject to change
Campus Life:
The GA in this area is primarily
responsible for assisting the Assistant and Associate
Director with special events planned by the Student
Programming Council (SPC), Homecoming Committee and Panther
Rage (Spirit Organization). Major area of
responsibilities include assisting with SPC campus wide
events, homecoming, football promotional activities, and
advising of a student programming association.
Campus Life and
Orientation-Biscayne Bay Campus:
Supports the programming efforts of the Office of Campus
Life and Orientation and reports to the Director of Campus
Life and Orientation. Responsibilities include
implementing a comprehensive marketing plan for Campus Life
events and assist with the maintenance of Campus Life
programming records, evaluations, surveys, and assessment
efforts.
Campus Recreation:
Assists in planning, promotion, programming, scheduling, and
daily operation of department, record keeping and assessment
of the Recreation Center and other recreation facilities.
Perform on-site supervision of events ( including evening
and /or weekends) and student staff (customer service and
weight room attendants).
Career Services:
Assist students/recent alumni individually and in group
setting for the job search preparation and employment
process; plan and present workshops to students in various
settings; conduct research on career development and
management topics; facilitate and interpret appropriate
level career indicators and assessments; available for
special events and programs held occasionally on weekends or
in the evenings as necessary; serve as a liaison to assigned
department, school, or college; responsible for working on
1-2 projects each semester; and perform additional duties as
assigned. This position reports to the Assistant/Associate
Director.
Center for Leadership
and Service - Biscayne Bay Campus : The GA
assists with program development and implementation and
reports to the Director. Provides outreach to the
student body, coordinates leadership workshop series,
advises the LEAD team, presents sessions for classes and
student organizations, and participates in weekend
leadership retreats. Coordinates bi-annual service fair to
connect BBC students with campus. Work with Alternative
Breaks program, Plans and implements Leadership Luncheon
Discussion.
Center for Leadership
and Service - University Park
Campus:
The Graduate Assistant's responsibilities include the
following: Assist with program development and
implementation. Provide outreach to student body, coordinate
leadership and service living/learning community with
Residential Life. Advise student organizations, coordinate
volunteer fairs, participate in weekend leadership retreats.
Housing and
Residential Life:

operation of residence hall, reporting to a Residence Life
Coordinator, or works in the Office of Residential Life
reporting to an Assistant Director. Duties may
include: assist with supervision of RA's, advise Hall
Council or co-advise RHA, supervise a front desk, advise
staff programming, judicial officer, participate in on call
duty rotation, assist with staff training/selection.

International
Student and Scholar Services - Biscayne Bay Campus:
Major responsibilities include:
Assist the Director and Coordinator in mentoring the
International Peer Mentor Program, help Advise on ISSS
office policies and procedures, assist the
Director and Assistant Director in special projects
and annual reports, help coordinate ISSS immigration
workshops and information sessions, share with Front Desk
duties (i.e., answering calls, scheduling appointments,
etc), maintain weekly regular office hours; and perform
other tasks as may be required.
Orientation and
Commuter Student Services: The GA
assists with the daily operations and departmental projects
and reports to the Assistant Director. Assists with
the planning of Orientation programs, recruitment and
selection of Peer Advisors, coordinating and implementing
Peer Advisor training, office publications, maintenance of
off-campus housing website, and commuter student programs.
Enrollment Information Services
Assist with planning of programs and projects for semester.
Implement marketing strategies for enrollment services.
Develop informational campaigns for enrollment services.
Develop research tools such as surveys in order to
communicate with incomeing and current FIU students.
Facilitate focus groups with current and prospective FIU
students. Conduct assessment utilizing student development
theories to analyze student's interactions with Enrollment
Services Office. Other duties as determined by the Director. |
