Current Research Interests
- Quantify the effects of global climate change and sea level rise on coastal and marine shelf ecosystem processes and how these coastal changes may further alter global climate.
- Further quantify the origin and genesis of coastal and freshwater wetlands soils and the fa tors which contribute to soil accretion rates and information loss.
- Continue working on the physcial aspects of carbonate sedimenation, especially interested in the mechanics involved in the origin of skeletal deposits and criterea for their recognition.
- Continue working on coastal wetland management issues by providing pre-deveolopment baseline information determied from detailed paleoecologic studies, developing analog models integrating both physical and biological components for interpreation of changes, and by further quanifying the parameters that control the biogeochemistry of wetland soils and therefore, ultimately coastal productivity.

1991-1992
Member of the National Capital Office Wetlands Team of National Audubon Society, Washington, D.C. under direction of Consul Hope Babcock. The team responded to congress s attempt to redefine "wetland" by criticing the proposed definition and preparing the major response that was read to congress. This activity eventually resulted in the defeat of the new proposed wetland delineation Manual thereby maintaining a biological rather than politican definition of a wetland and providing more clear cut protection policies than those proposed.
1991
Expert Witness in behalf of the Platt River Crane Trust for the FERC s relicensing of the Kingsley Damn in Nebraska. This litagation became a precedent setting case for establishing instream flow rights for wildlife and ecosystem protection.
1991
Co-organized the "Coastal Wetland Ecology and Management Symposium, New Orleans, Dec 3-5, 1991 with Dr. R.E. Turner from LSU. Over 100 presentations were made by researchers from five countries and 15 states. Program with Abstracts, Baton Rougue, LA. no pagination.
1990-1991
Helped support the development of the "Coalition to save coastal Louisiana" chaired by Dr. Mike Kemp. I participated in organization and promotional activities include a lecture series on the economic benifits for saving the coastal ecosystem from further uncessary perturbation.
1989-1991
Board Member of the Louisiana Aububon Council, Baton Rougue, LA. Helped establish a scientific policy and worked to develope a cohesion between research, management, and activism in the state.
1989-1992
Member of the Platte River Task Force and the Platte River Ad Hoc Committee on Hydrology established by the Surpreme Court to resolve the water use-wildlife conflict along the Central Platte River. We reviewed sediment and hydrology models todetermine their possible applicability with out positie results. We worker with the wildlife committee to determine water management schedule friendly to both agriculture and wildlife. Wildlife "instream" flow needs were established based upon the model generated by both committees and granted by the FERC discission noted above.
